Sedation dentistry can help patients with dental anxiety receive the dental health care they need. Many patients with dental anxiety avoid visiting the dentist for prolonged periods of time causing their oral health to deteriorate. East Market Dental fosters a no-judgment, welcoming environment designed to help patients feel at ease when visiting the dentist. For patients who suffer from dental anxiety, East Market Dental offers options for sedation dentistry.
Dr. Sareen will discuss using sedation options for any visit to our dentist office from the routine dental exam to tooth extractions or the surgical placement of dental implants. We want you to feel comfortable and confident and our dental care team will ensure you receive high-quality dentistry in a safe and welcoming environment.
Our patient’s comfort and safety are our top priorities. We help patients determine which sedation method is the safest and most effective for them based on their health, treatment needed, and their personal concerns.
Dr. Deepti Sareen is a certified IV Sedation dentist in Northern VA with years of experience administering safe and effective IV sedation. Our dental care team closely monitors all patients under sedation.
IV sedation is ideal for patients who experience extreme dental anxiety. IV Conscious sedation is designed to put the patient into a light sleep like state so that they are unable to feel their treatment. All vital signs are closely monitored during treatment by our highly trained and IV certified staff. IV sedation allows patients to feel completely relaxed and comfortable during their treatment while remaining responsive to Dr. Sareen. Patients typically have little to no memory of their procedure when they wake up.
IV sedation can also be used for patients who require more extensive or surgical treatment such as a wisdom tooth extraction or the placement of dental implants.
Oral conscious sedation is a prescription medication prescribed by Dr. Sareen. This type of sedation is often recommended for patients who have a high level of anxiety or fear, enabling them to become relaxed and calm before coming into our office. Dr. Sareen will instruct the patient on the timing of taking the prescribed sedative. The pill is often taken at home before your dental treatment so that you are relaxed and comfortable by the time you arrive for your appointment. For this reason, patients will require a ride to and from the dentist as the effects of the prescribed medication can last for several hours.
Nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, is inhaled through a small cannula that is placed over the patient’s nose. Patients remain awake and alert but are filled with a sense of euphoria while inhaling the gas. This type of sedation is well-tolerated by most patients and often ideal for someone who is anxious about a particular procedure.
Nitrous oxide wears off almost immediately after the cannula is removed so patients are able to return to their daily activities without side effects from the sedation. Patients are able to drive themselves to and from the dentist without assistance.
